March 23, 2020 CAMPUS HOUSING MOVE OUT UPDATEToday, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Executive Order to combat the spread of COVID-19 in Michigan. WSU supports the purpose of the order which is to reduce the movement and potential exposure to the coronavirus (COVID-19). We are providing this update to advise you on your options going forward as you make your decision to stay on campus or check out and move out. Regardless of your choice, in all you do please continue following the recommendations on social distancing and good hygiene practices to protect yourself and those around you. WSU continues to post updates on the WSU coronavirus website. Checking Out and Moving Off-Campus
All campus residents who follow the procedures outlined above by 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2020 will receive a credit to your student account of $850. If you are leaving and live in University Tower Apartments, the $850 credit is one per apartment and pro-rated the same way as your apartment rent is pro-rated among the residents. Please remember it is each of our responsibility to practice mitigation strategies to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. We will appreciate your cooperation in:
WSU has limited carts to deploy as our normal rental supply is not available as a result of the pandemic. If you choose to use a WSU cart, please bring your own Clorox wipes to sanitize the cart before use. (WSU has not been able to procure a large amount of sanitation wipes due to high demand.) Staying on CampusIf your plan is to stay on campus through the end of the semester on April 29, 2020, please know that you are welcome to do so and that housing and dining will remain open to support you. We need to know you are staying, so please be sure you have already told us by having already completed the Winter 2020 Housing Intent or by emailing us at housing@wayne.edu Mail and Guest ChangesAs part of our mitigation strategy please be aware that we have suspended the guest registration process and guests will not be permitted within our campus housing facilities. In addition, daily mail service to our buildings will be suspended due to a reduction in the workforce on campus and by USPS in Michigan to comply with the Governor’s order. Dining Changes:If you have a meal plan and are staying, the Towers Café is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for take-out meals. Starting Wednesday, March 25, 2020, the take-out process will be streamlined and hot and cold food will be pre-packaged and available at the door. Very few of you are going to breakfast, so we will begin offering breakfast items during the dinner hour which you will be able to take with you for the next day if you want to do that. We will also start offering “snack bags” that you can take with you to fill in the gaps between meals. Look for more information on these changes to be posted at the Towers Café entrance. Be Safe Moving Out and Thank You for Living on Campus! If you have any questions about this move out process, please email housing@wayne.edu or access our online chat. We have staff ready to assist you who will return an email or a phone call to you. Sincerely, Tim Michael |
