Wayne State University Medical Alumni Association recognizes distinguished alumni and faculty for their significant contributions to the Medical School and the medical community at large. Awards are presented annually during the Medical Alumni Reunion Dinner. All School of Medicine alumni, faculty and resident alumni are invited to nominate candidates for the Recent Alumni, Distinguished Alumni Award and Lawrence M. Weiner Award. The following awards are presented during the Annual Medical Alumni Reunion Dinner:

The Wayne State University Medical Alumni Association initiated the Distinguished Alumni Award to be presented annually to an individual who received an M.D. degree from WSU School of Medicine who has made outstanding contributions to humanitarian causes, whose contributions to the health field in the broader sense is outstanding or for service to the Wayne State University School of Medicine. The Lawrence M. Weiner Award, established in 1979, honors the outstanding contributions made by individuals who are not M.D. alumni of the School of Medicine.  This award is based on exceptional performance of their teaching, research and/or administrative duties.  The individuals who receive the award have met the high standards established by Dr. Lawrence Weiner's outstanding record of service to the school. Previous Recipients of the Lawrence M. The Recent Alumni Award, established in 2003, is presented to an individual who received an M.D. degree from the WSU School of Medicine within the last 15 years and has demonstrated outstanding professional achievement, community contributions or service to Wayne State University School of Medicine. Previous Recipients of the Recent Alumni Award
