Matt Roling to head Wayne State accounting program

Effective Nov. 5, Matthew X. Roling has been named the interim chair of the https://ilitchbusiness.wayne.edu/news-images/roling-matthew.jpgaccounting department at Wayne State University’s Mike Ilitch School of Business. Roling has been teaching courses at the Ilitch School as an adjunct faculty member, and will co-teach a new course on personal finance in the winter 2019 semester.

“Our students have benefited from Matt’s expertise for some time,” said Ilitch School Dean Robert Forsythe. “I am very much looking forward to seeing what he will accomplish in this new leadership role.”

Roling is a certified public accountant who joins the Ilitch School faculty with more than 15 years of professional experience. He most recently served as CEO of BoostUp, a savings platform that helps people reach their big purchase goals. Before joining BoostUp, Roling spent five years as director of business development at Rock Ventures. Previous stops included AlixPartners, PwC and GM.

He was named to the DBusiness “30 in their Thirties” list, and was recognized as a Crain’s Detroit Business “40 under 40.” Additionally, he serves as a board member for numerous organizations, including the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation’s Economic Development Board and the Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program.

“I’m excited to join the Mike Ilitch School of Business during a time when so many exciting things are happening. We will be very committed to building strong relationships with the community and developing the next generation of accounting leaders,” Roling said.

Roling received his bachelor’s in business administration and his master’s in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
