Northern Lower Regional Center Tours Several School Partners at Community Health Center

The Northern Lower Regional Center's main focus since its inception has been clinical student placements in rural primary care. The NLRC coordinates clinical placements for medical assistants, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and medical students. All placements have been coordinated in a community health center setting in rural northern Michigan. New school partners that were added in 2018 include Career Quest Medical Assistant program and Western Michigan University PA program. Recent visits to MidMichigan Community Health Services were coordinated for placement coordinators from Saginaw Valley State University School of Nursing, Western Michigan Physician Assistant Program and Kirtland Community College Medical Assistant program.

Northern Lower Regional Center Community Advisory Board to Rotate Meeting Locations in 2019

The NLRC held its most recent Community Advisory Board (CAB) meeting in early January.  Member sharing is a standing item for this meeting. The round table sharing made it apparent that members are not familiar with many of the programs and state of the art facilities of their peer board members. It was decided that CAB meetings in the spring and summer of 2019 will be held at CAB member locations so that tours of these facilities can take place in conjunction with the meeting. The April meeting will be held at the The Brook Retirement Community in Houghton Lake.  It is anticipated that summer board meetings will be held at the Kirtland Health Science Center in Grayling and Baker College of Cadillac.
