CHHS Immersion Day students

Western Regional AHEC Facilitates CHHS Immersion Day

AHEC CHHS Immersion Days were held on November 6 and December 4, 2018 with students from Van Buren Technology Center at the College of Health and Human Services at Western Michigan University. Fifty-four junior and senior high schools students participated along with six instructors. Dean Ron Cisler along with WMU faculty and students from Nursing, Audiology, OT, PT, Interdisciplinary Health and PA interacted with the VBTC students with hands-on activities, simulation lab tours and presentations on their programs. 

At the December Immersion Day, a group of seven nursing students interacted with the high schools students. They visited simulation labs in small groups.  Representatives from Audiology and Occupational Therapy presented highlights from their departments.

High School to Health Care Van Buren Mentor Program

Five CHHS student volunteers will be mentoring students from Van Buren Technology Center.  They are from BSON Nursing, Speech & Language Sciences and Interdisciplinary Health. The students will bring their knowledge and experiences to help improve personal and academic success to students in economic or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds to support their interest in pursuing healthcare careers.
