Faculty Spotlight: Jing Sun

The Mike Ilitch School of Business welcomed Jing Sun, assistant professor of management, to the faculty in the fall semester.

Jing earned her Ph.D. in strategic management from the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh and bachelor's degree at the Beijing Foreign Studies University, followed by a master’s degree at Peking University, also located in Beijing.

“I worked in the auto industry for many years,” she said. “When I moved to Detroit, I already knew some people from my connections with the industry.”

Her research interests include social media, temporal perspective, strategic alliances and networks, including research into how companies deal with acquisitions and mergers.

In her classes, she pushes her students to better utilize data and supports them by creating a library portal specifically for her classes.

“My class is very data focused,” she said. “My students get a hands on experience and a chance to explore that data.”

Sun said she is impressed by Detroit’s thriving city life, and regularly attends events downtown. In her spare time, she travels extensively. Last summer, she visited 25 states, and completed the historic Route 66 trip. She said some of her favorite cities to visit are in Japan, but lately she’s been exploring the cities in Michigan, including a recent trip to Mackinac Island.
