Provost Announcements - Wayne State University

Dear colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce that Rob Thompson has accepted our offer to assume the role of interim chief information officer and associate vice president, Computing and Information Technology (C&IT), effective Sept. 7.

Rob has been with C&IT for 23 years, having started as a programmer for the College of Engineering and steadily worked his way through roles of increasing responsibility. For the past 10 years, he has served in various leadership positions, most recently as senior director of enterprise applications. Rob has helped drive key transformations of our academic and administrative systems, as well as the deployment, stewardship and operation of the university’s core technology environments, including Office 365, Banner and Canvas.

With experience in database integration, information technology management, strategic systems support and software development, Rob brings a wealth of expertise and knowledge to this role. Known for his collaborative and creative spirit, he has a keen ability to inspire his colleagues.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I have had the opportunity to work closely with Rob as he has led efforts to support the development of processes required to support our real-time assessment of the health and safety of our campus. Rob is detail-oriented and solutions-focused, and I am fully confident in his ability to drive technology and digital innovation to positively impact Wayne State University’s faculty, staff and students. Rob will serve as a key member of the senior staff in the Office of the Provost.

Please join me in congratulating Rob and in welcoming him to this pivotal leadership role.

Sincerely,

Laurie M. Lauzon Clabo, PhD, RN, FAAN
Interim Provost & Sr. Vice President for Academic Affairs
