Judicial Externship

Judicial externs learn about the roles and responsibilities of judges and judicial clerks, judicial decision-making and effective advocacy. Judicial externs develop skills in research, writing, analysis, oral communication and law practice management.

While the work at each student's placement is the primary focus of the externship program, the fieldwork is supplemented by a colloquium that includes: the sharing of experiences from the various placements, reflective journals, and discussions and presentations by faculty and students on a wide variety of topics related to the justice system.

The deadline to apply for an externship is the first day of registration. You are encouraged to apply as soon as you have accepted a placement at an approved externship site as the class is capped.
