School of Medicine - Wayne State University

To the School of Medicine Students:

You all should have received and read the message from President Wilson this morning regarding the COVID-19 trigger metrics. While we know everyone would rather remain on campus, to contain the further spread of virus we need to make immediate plans, to the extent possible, to depopulate the campus of non-essential staff until Jan. 3.

To reiterate the sentiments of President Wilson, we want to minimize the disruption to you, the student, during this critical point in the semester. Therefore, libraries will remain open and in-person classes and final exams will continue for now.

Please know that the School of Medicine deems all student-facing offices/services as essential, and these offices will remain open to serve you during normal business hours Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Dean’s Office will remain open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with at least one member from executive leadership available.

Please be aware that to the extent possible, and approved by the Provost’s Office, your instructor may move classes online for the next two weeks. Please stay abreast of any communications in Canvas from your instructor regarding the in-person or online status of your classes.

While on campus, please know that the Little Bros. Burgers food truck still plans to be at Scott Hall on Dec. 7.

We will continue to communicate any changes in expectations as we complete this semester and prepare for the start of Winter semester.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Mark E. Schweitzer, M.D.
Dean, School of Medicine
Vice President, Health Affairs
