As dean of the Wayne State University School of Medicine, the medical school in Michigan that trains the majority of physicians who will go on to practice in our great state, it is my extreme pleasure to thank you for your loyalty, and an honor to introduce our new Giving Matters newsletter. In this inaugural edition you will find information about the impact made by our generous philanthropic supporters who play a pivotal role in advancing the mission of the School of Medicine to train future generations of physicians, develop researchers who will change the face of medicine around the world, and provide the finest clinical care to hundreds of thousands in southeast Michigan.

This year, the university and the School of Medicine celebrate a 150-year legacy of service, academic excellence, leading-edge research and high-quality clinical care. 2018 also marks the conclusion of Pivotal Moments: Our Campaign for Wayne State University, the university's largest campaign to date, with more than 8,500 donors contributing to the School of Medicine's $190 million goal. The impact of such generosity to the School of Medicine is immeasurable. These gifts have forged new opportunities for pioneering research, scholarships, innovative spaces, community outreach and improved clinical care.

Giving Matters offers a snapshot of a few storied examples of the incredible impact philanthropy has on our school, our city and around the planet. With the continued devotion of our loyal alumni, friends and other philanthropic partners, we can propel the school's mission to prepare physician and biomedical scientific leaders to achieve optimum health and wellness for our society.

Thank you for your ongoing support of the Wayne State University School of Medicine.
