Chief of Staff - Wayne State University

Dear campus community,

We want to share some important information about a serious public health concern. The state of Michigan is experiencing an outbreak of the Hepatitis A virus, and an employee of Wayne State University recently was diagnosed with the illness. The employee does not work in any food or clinical setting, so the risk of exposure in this situation is very low. Nevertheless, this serves as a reminder to take appropriate precautions. Learn more about Hepatitis A here

First, be sure to wash your hands frequently. Second, it is recommended that all members of the WSU community who have not been vaccinated or who would like to check their vaccination status contact their primary care physician or the Campus Health Center (CHC). The Hepatitis A vaccine is a safe and effective method for reducing the spread of this virus and is recommended for all individuals.

CHC staff may be able to check your immunization record to see if you have been vaccinated. If you have not been vaccinated, CHC can refer you to a suitable location.
