Epsilon Phi chapter of Beta Alpha Psi recognized as "Distinguished Chapter" for 2013-14

The WSU Epsilon Phi chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the international honors organization for financial information students and professionals, was recognized by its national office as a Distinguished Chapter for 2014. To achieve that status, an individual chapter must organize a combination of five or more reaching out activities, professional activities and service activities as well as submit beginning and year end reports. Additionally, a minimum of 20 hours of professional and service activities are required of each individual member and candidate.

"For the 2014-15 school year going forward, we aspire to maintain our distinguished chapter status by continuing to provide worthwhile events and programs for our members," said Alex Atanasovski, president of the business school’s chapter. "We currently have 20 candidates and 18 members and we are looking forward to our upcoming fall induction ceremony on December 5."

A partial list of 2014 activities and events include:

  • Networking events with Deloitte, Plante Moran, UHY, Rehmann, PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG accounting firms
  • "Mapping Your 150," a new professional event featuring speakers discussing both the undergraduate and graduate accounting programs and pathways to attain an internship/full time position in a public accounting firms, as well as the structure of the CPA exam
  • A presentation by Beta Alpha Psi members to the juniors and seniors in Melvindale High School’s accounting class about the accounting profession
  • Making and donating blankets to the DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan of Detroit, in conjunction with the school’s Career Planning and Placement Office.

"Next semester we are looking to establish professional relationships with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, as well as continuing a professional relationship with Becker Professional Education. It would also be terrific if we could form a recruiting relationship with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), as well as have IRS agents give presentations to our chapter," said Atanasovski.

The chapter said that the outstanding guidance of Deborah Jones, senior lecturer of accounting and Epsilon Phi chapter faculty advisor, was pertinent in the chapter’s success.
