3rd Annual Health Career Pipeline Program Kicks Off

The Mid Central AHEC Health Careers Pipeline Program will once again begin on September 18th.  The program empowers high school students to pursue careers in the health professions and is offered to 9th and 10th graders at Mt. Pleasant High School, Sacred Heart Academy, Montcalm Schools, Gladwin High School and the Mt. Pleasant Tribal Academy.

Through exposure to health career options, mentorship, and health and wellness education, students participate in engaging, hands-on, enriching experiences that will foster personal growth and leadership characteristics. The HCPP will be the channel to help students develop their confidence and a support system for their journey into post-secondary education and beyond.

The 9th and 10th grade high school students are paired individually with CMU student mentors from the College of Medicine and The Herbert H. & Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions. They not only learn about possible health professions careers, but also what it takes to prepare for college with time management skills, application processes and follow up.

The Mid Central AHEC staff and CMU Medical students administer this program and are hands-on the entire 10 weeks. The program ends with an uplifting and positive graduation program with family and friends attending while and student projects are presented.
