The Dr. Marjorie Peebles-Meyers Symposium on African-American Women’s Health is an opportunity to honor Dr. Marjorie Peebles-Meyers’ contributions to medicine while addressing the disparities in medical outcomes experienced by African-American women. Featured presenters include LaQuandra Nesbitt, M.D. ’03, M.P.H., director of the Health Department for Washington, D.C.; Renee Jenkins Woodard, M.D. ’73, past-president of the American Academy of Pediatrics; and Cheryl Gibson Fountain, M.D. ’87, president of the Michigan State Medical Society. The Wayne State University Medical Alumni Association recognizes distinguished alumni and faculty for significant contributions to the School of Medicine and the medical community at large. Awards are presented annually during the Medical Alumni Reunion Dinner. All School of Medicine alumni, faculty, resident alumni and students are invited to nominate candidates for the Recent Alumni Award, the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Lawrence M. Weiner Award. The Wayne State University School of Medicine will host a cocktail reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 4 as part of the AAMC's 2017 Learn Serve Lead conference in Boston. Please join Dean Jack D. Sobel, M.D., and Vice President of Health Affairs David S. Hefner for cocktails and conversation as the school honors AAMC Board of Directors Chair-elect and Wayne State University President M. Wayne State Warriors continue to set the example of what it means to serve the community, practice medicine with compassion and provide leadership in the field of health care. Since the university launched Pivotal Moments: Our Campaign for Wayne State University, School of Medicine alumni and friends have exemplified the Warrior Medicine tradition by contributing more than $153 million toward its $190 million goal as of August 2017. The financial assistance received from the Medical Alumni Annual Fund helps the Street Medicine student organization provide care packages for those living on the street. Street Medicine Detroit is dedicated to providing a student-based, health professional-led and patient-centered method of care for those experiencing homelessness. The group can be found several times per month at numerous sites in Detroit. Street Medicine Detroit is dedicated to providing the highest level of care for patients. In addition to financial support, donations of time enable the organization to carry out its mission. Click here to donate today.
