Fall career fairs showcase quality of WSU business students and programs

While there really isn’t much downtime in the Mike Ilitch School of Business’ Career Planning and Placement Office, the fall semester is certainly CPP’s busiest time. Fall is when the office hosts the school’s two biggest career fairs: the Meet the Firms Career Fair for accounting majors and the Career Day Career Fair for all Ilitch School students. Now that these two signature events are over for this year, it’s time to look back at some of the highlights.

First, attendance at both fairs was exceptional. More than 130 students attended the Meet the Firms fair, where they had the opportunity to meet with representatives from 17 accounting firms and other organizations interested in hiring accounting majors.

Career Day Career Fair attendance totaled 397 students. Attendees had the opportunity to meet with representatives from a broad range of companies, non-profit organizations and government entities.

"Career fairs are instrumental in obtaining internship and fulltime opportunities," said CPP Director Carlos Pierre. "We have heard from several employers in recent weeks who have indicated that they interviewed and extended offers to students with whom they first met at our Meet the Firms or Career Day."

In addition to its two traditional career fairs, CPP this fall also co-hosted a career event that focused on the Ilitch School’s global supply chain management program. More than 200 supply chain students attended the inaugural event, where they were able to network with each other, supply chain faculty members and representatives from 21 of the top companies who hire supply chain graduates.

CPP will host another school-wide career fair in the winter semester on March 2, 2016. Students and employers alike are encouraged to visit ilitchbusiness.wayne.edu/careerplanning/index.php or waynebizcareers.com to learn more.

About the Career Planning and Placement Office

The Career Planning and Placement Office in WSU’s Mike Ilitch School of Business was created in 2005 upon the recommendation of the school’s Board of Visitors. CPP supports business students and alumni with their career planning needs, from career assessments to resume reviews, as well as job and internship search support and career advising. In addition to its on-campus career fairs, CPP averages roughly 250 employer interviews and 2,000 student career advising appointments per year. Additionally, more than 900 employers are registered with the office’s waynebizcareers.com website.
